Meet Me In the Moment - A Wave of Presence
In a world where doing, accomplishing, and scrolling are the default, this piece celebrates BEING. As the wheel of life goes round and round with all its busy-ness, a giant wave of presence washes over it. It invites us to pause, to be present in THIS moment, to feel the joy of simply being alive and part of the web of life.
I was inspired to make this piece after a visit to the ocean while visiting a friend in Rhode Island this summer. You know the feeling of being at the beach, listening to the waves crashing, feeling the warm sand on your feet? Maybe even foraging for treasures? That delicious feeling of being totally present in nature. That moment where you think: I’m here and there’s no place I’d rather be right now.
And what treasures I found! Every beach has its own character and its own unique treasures. On this beach, I found these amazing shells and I envisioned them in a large mosaic.
I’ve been thinking a lot this year about BEING vs. DOING. Okay, there was a lot of DOING in making this piece, but a lot of it was spent in a flow state. Now that it’s done, it’s a reminder of the value of BEING.
Hand-designed with ceramic, slate, shells, filati, iridescent smalti, and vitreous glass.
